What is a clinical psychologist?
A clinical psychologist is a mental health professional with highly specialized training in psychological assessment and psychotherapy. In Missouri, clinical psychologists must complete a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) . As part of obtaining their doctorate, clinical psychologists complete a 1 year internship. Additionally, post-graduation, they obtain 1-2 years post-doctoral training prior to practicing on their own. The professional activities of Missouri clinical psychologists are regulated by a the State Committee of Psychologists.
